Lux Lucis | Photography

Lux Lucis Photography is the visual arts wing of Aqua Lux Lucis, Inc. Both ventures are the progeny of Curt Pollman. Curt holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering Sciences from the University of Florida (1983) and practices the science and art of chemical limnology. Limnology, which derives from the Greek word for lakes, limnee, is the study of natural waters. Curt traces his limnological lineage to both the widely recognized father of limnology, G. Evelyn Hutchinson, whose first doctoral student, Edward S. Deevey, served as a member of Curt's doctoral committee, and to Patrick L. Brezonik, whom many consider to be the father of Florida limnology, and who served as the chair of Curt's doctoral committee.
Science is very much about illuminating that which is hidden. Often that requires examining data from a different perspective, and looking for relationships that are obscured by the obvious. One also can say that good photography often requires and reflects the same traits. Restated, often photography is all about abstracting that which is important, and discarding that which is extraneous and distracting. Likewise, good science has a similar challenge, and that often requires an elegant, clear solution to a problem which on the surface is rife with complexity. I would like to think that the practice of science and photography each helps inform the other, and sharpens the knife of creative thought and vision to lead to both keener scientific insight, and more creative photographs.
Curt resides in Gainesville, Florida with his wife and spiritual partner, Christina, and their cat with an oversized personality that belies her diminutive size, Gracie.
